Dear Prime Minister Modi

As the pharmacy of the developing world, India plays a unique role in global health. Millions of people and doctors from medical organisations such as Médecins Sans Frontières rely on generic medicines made in India. [Affordable Indian generics are a large part of the reason why today there are 15 million people living with HIV worldwide who receive treatment.]

I am concerned at the international pressure India is under to change its progressive patent laws which, if successful, could shut off the tap of affordable medicines in the future for MSF and millions of people around the world.

I write to urge you and your government to stand strong against international pressure (highlighted here http://handsoff.msf.org/generics-under-attack#anchor) and protect the production of affordable generic medicines in India. India has saved millions of lives already, let’s not turn back now.

In solidarity,
